Blowing is the only section where the calculation is built around bottle cost and break-even point, not around the filling line capacity.

How we calculate the economics of in-house blowing

  1. Step 1
    Break down bottle geometry

    Volume, preform weight, neck, shape, stiffness and gas-barrier requirements. From here we get the number of cavities and machine class.

  2. Step 2
    Calculate break-even

    We compare the price of purchased bottles with in-house cost: preform, electricity, air, amortization, labor. We show the annual volume from which blowing pays off.

  3. Step 3
    Select the compressor station

    High-pressure air is half the operating cost of a blowing section. We calculate compressor capacity, recovery and drying.

  4. Step 4
    Decide on a combiblock

    Separate blowing machine with air conveyor or blow-fill-cap combiblock. We compare by floor space, losses and cost.

  5. Step 5
    Calculate estimate and molds

    Machine, mold set for each format, compressor and chiller, installation, commissioning and training. We separately budget for new molds.

When is a combiblock better than separate blowing?

From 12,000 bph up: a combiblock removes the air conveyor, saves floor space and reduces the risk of bottle contamination between blowing and filling.

How much does a new PET mold cost?

Price depends on the number of cavities and geometry complexity. We list molds as a separate budget line so you see the cost of launching each new SKU.

Did we forget the compressor?

This is the most common budget mistake. Blowing needs air at 25-40 bar, and the compressor station with drying is a significant cost. We always include it in the calculation.
