Juice filling line: price, hot fill and aseptic

Juice line cost is determined by preservation method and pulp content. We compare hot fill and aseptic, show the line composition by units and the calculation order for your range.

A juice line can be cheaper or more expensive by multiples depending on whether it is hot fill or aseptic, and whether the product contains pulp and pieces. We calculate from the recipe.

How we prepare a juice/nectar estimate

  1. Step 1
    Break down the product

Direct press, reconstituted juice, nectar or fruit drink, presence of pulp and fibers. This determines pumps, filtration and filler type.

  2. Step 2
    Choose preservation mode

Hot fill, in-line pasteurization or aseptic. We compare by budget, packaging requirements and impact on taste and vitamins.

  3. Step 3
    Design preparation

Concentrate reconstitution, blending, deaeration, homogenization, heat exchangers. We calculate the tank farm and its piping.

  4. Step 4
    Select filling and decoration

PET, glass, carton or doypack, capping, labeling, date coding. We consider retail chain marking requirements and group packaging.

  5. Step 5
    Calculate estimate and seasonality

Equipment, engineering, installation and commissioning. Separately we look at seasonal peaks: we size the line for the peak shift, not the annual average.

Questions about juice and nectar filling

Hot fill or aseptic?

Hot fill is cheaper and simpler to operate, but requires heat-stable packaging and slightly changes taste. Aseptic is gentler to the product and gives a long shelf life, but is more expensive in investment and maintenance.

Can juice with pulp run on a regular line?

No. Pulp requires valves with larger flow passage and suitable hydraulics, otherwise lines clog and the dose floats.

Will a juice line also handle cold tea and fruit drinks?

Yes, a hot-fill juice line covers teas, fruit drinks and nectars. The differences are in recipe and blending department.
